From the editor: I gave our regular writer the week off. Last week we published a guide to filling your lineup. This week George and Catyn won without filling theirs. I will be handling the complaint personally.
Satirical Editor's Note illustration: George and Catyn receive crowns while an overwhelmed robot editor questions his full-lineup advice. Catyn's final score is 165.13 to 164.16, a 0.97-point win.
George gets the crown. Catyn gets the crown. The editor gets a headache. Illustration is satire; the scorecard shows the final Yahoo result.
Week 7 · The managers are the chaos

SEVEN STARTERS. EIGHT STARTERS. TWO WINS. I QUIT.

Hail Mary George beat the league leader with two empty running-back spots. Balls? I'm In! won by 0.97 with no points at tight end. I thought the scoring was supposed to be the unreasonable part.

George. We need to talk.

You were facing Dan. First place. A 5-1 record. Our No. 1 team last week. You were No. 3 on our Board. This was a big game, and you left Rachaad White and Chris Rodriguez Jr. in your two running-back slots. Both had no game.

Not one empty spot. Two. Jahmyr Gibbs was in the flex, presumably supervising.

I had the lecture ready. Check the byes. Use waivers. Give yourself a chance. Then you won, 167.90 to 163.34, and now I have to congratulate you while deleting several paragraphs.

Cairo Santos scored 41.00. Luther Burden added 31.43. Seattle's defense outscored New England's by 14.50. You beat the person in front of you. Fine. Congratulations. I hate how much that settles the matter.

And then Catyn. You picked up Jacoby Brissett. Thank you. He scored 21.26. That was useful. Then the repairs stopped before reaching Tyler Warren's tight-end slot.

By the time Monday night was finished, you had beaten Alex 165.13 to 164.16. Less than a point. Quinshon Judkins gave you 42.60, CeeDee Lamb gave you 36.15, and the other side did just little enough. You did not need a perfect lineup. You needed 164.17. You got there.

So George is No. 1 this week. Catyn is No. 2. Not because I am recommending any of this. Because I spent last week's issue explaining roster maintenance, and the two of you have responded with wins and an empty chair.

Please start a full lineup. Or keep doing this and understand that the newspaper now requires supervision. Either way, flowers for both of you. You have earned them. I need a vacation.

AROUND GOTHAM

The rest of the paper still has to happen

Hail Mary George defeats Zaddy Dan with an understaffed backfield

Hail Mary George 167.90 · Zaddy Dan 163.34

George got 29.17 from Gibbs in the flex and zero from both designated RB spots. Dan got 45.56 from Drake Maye, 39.33 from Kaimi Fairbairn, and 27.80 from Tre Tucker. He also had a zero in his flex from Breece Hall. Nobody here gets to give the other person a seminar.

The defense gap was bigger than the final margin: Seattle 17.50, New England 3.00. George wins his second straight and joins Dan at 5-2. The winner had fewer scoring starters. That is the sentence. I have checked it.

Balls? I'm In! wins by less than a point; Love the Puca hate the game supplies the title

Balls? I'm In! 165.13 · Love the Puca hate the game 164.16

Catyn's Brissett pickup helped. Judkins and Lamb combined for 78.75. Jake Bates added 22.67. The empty tight-end slot remained empty, yet Catyn left with her second win.

Alex had 31.55 from Christian McCaffrey and 31.10 from Trey McBride, but Evan McPherson and Houston's defense combined for 12.50. Catyn's kicker and defense combined for 34.67. In a 0.97-point game, that matters rather a lot.

There were winning alternatives on Alex's bench. We will get to them. For now: congratulations, Catyn. A win is a win, even when it arrives through a gap in the floorboards.

Loose Endz scores 249.66 while the quarterback contributes a polite gesture

Loose Endz 249.66 · Pass Rush David 197.12

Patrick Mahomes played and scored 4.97. Tony Pollard scored 65.05, Bucky Irving 47.03, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba 40.98. Those three combined for 153.06. Pat did not need a quarterback rescue so much as permission to keep handing the ball off.

Dave C got 38.58 from Emanuel Wilson, 38.33 from Brandon Aubrey, and 35.85 from D'Andre Swift. With Josh Allen on a bye, Brock Purdy supplied 17.94. Pass Rush David exceeded projection and still lost. Again.

Pat returns to first in Yahoo at 5-2. Dave C is 2-5 despite scoring 1,380.84 this season, the league's fourth-highest total. That record is wearing a very misleading disguise.

Ball Hogs keeps winning at almost exactly the same score

Ball Hogs 203.41 · Wonder Waah 165.84

Mike's last three scores: 203.33, 203.09, 203.41. That is a 0.32-point range. In this league. Somebody inspect the spreadsheet.

Ollie Gordon scored 36.73, Matthew Stafford 36.40, and Rhamondre Stevenson 30.23. Saturday's Omar Cooper Jr. pickup produced 27.75 immediately. Mike won his second straight and remains second in Yahoo as the Great Molasses division leader.

Ben got 39.55 from Dak Prescott and 30.17 from Amon-Ra St. Brown, but Jalen Coker's 1.40 in the flex hurt. Wonder Waah has lost two straight since that 294.33 eruption. Football is apparently refusing to offer a subscription to that score.

Bobby's Juicemen wins a game Mariah Carey will not be framing

Bobby's Juicemen 137.91 · Mariah Carey 131.63

Bobby won with the second-lowest score in the league and minus-9.00 from Philadelphia's defense. Jonathan Taylor's 34.17, Kyren Williams' 29.65, and Rico Dowdle's 21.22 did enough. Barely.

Henny received 28.82 from Jaylen Warren and 23.70 from Ja'Marr Chase. Roschon Johnson scored 2.73 at RB while Samaje Perine scored 14.13 on the bench. That one swap changes the result.

Both teams missed projection by more than 53 points. One received a win. The other received this paragraph.

Dolly's Dolls wins a third straight; Hailee Steinfeld's Husband runs out of special teams

Dolly's Dolls 221.33 · Hailee Steinfeld's Husband 168.17

Farrar got 52.28 from Joe Burrow, 33.95 from Zay Flowers, 32.05 from Josh Jacobs, and 26.88 from Puka Nacua. The Vikings supplied 25.50 on defense. That is a lot of different ways to ruin someone's Sunday.

Dave B had 43.17 from Javonte Williams, 36.60 from Jameson Williams, and 33.45 from Blake Corum. But his kicker and defense combined for 2.00: Brandon McManus at 5.00 and Baltimore at minus-3.00.

Farrar is 4-3 after a 0-2 start and now has the third-most season points. The defending champ falls to 3-4. This was not a mystery. Farrar was better across enough of the lineup.

THE BENCH HAS RECEIPTS

Hindsight arithmetic, not proof a decision was foolish before kickoff

Zaddy Dan had the winning 5.10 sitting down

TreVeyon Henderson scored 5.10 on Dan's bench. Replacing Hall's zero in the flex would have made it 168.44-167.90 to Dan. A 0.54-point win instead of a 4.56-point loss. George's masterpiece was one very modest flex performance away from being a cautionary tale.

Love the Puca hate the game had several exits

Bo Nix scored 38.75 to Jordan Love's 25.46. That switch adds 13.29. Marvin Harrison Jr.'s 12.35 instead of Wan'Dale Robinson's 2.70 in the flex adds 9.65. Even Dalton Schultz's 8.25 in that flex slot adds 5.55. Any one of those reverses the 0.97-point loss. This is not a claim that every choice was obvious beforehand. It is why the bench feels louder afterward.

Mariah Carey needed one running-back change

Perine over Roschon Johnson adds 11.40. Henny's total becomes 143.03, beating Bobby by 5.12. Unlike the Week 6 blowout, this week's bench regret actually comes with an alternate ending.

Wonder Waah needed two changes, not one

Braelon Allen over Coker in the flex adds 28.22. George Pickens over Christian Watson adds another 9.50. Together they produce 203.56, just 0.15 above Mike. Neither swap alone was enough. That is an important distinction, even if it offers Ben absolutely no comfort.

THE TRANSACTION DESK

Roster work still matters. I am choosing to believe this.

Ball Hogs gets an immediate return

Mike replaced DeMario Douglas with Omar Cooper Jr. on Saturday. Cooper started and scored 27.75. This is the useful version of roster churn: find a player, give him a job, collect points. Mike has won two straight.

Balls? I'm In! solves the quarterback problem

Catyn added Brissett on Sunday and started him for 21.26. That mattered in a game decided by less than one point. The log also shows Hurts and Courtland Sutton being dropped. The win validates the need to cover QB; it does not tell us whether every drop was the best long-term decision.

The losing moves deserve a fair hearing

Henny's Aaron Rodgers pickup scored 18.03, and Tennessee's defense scored 11.00. His two new backs went different ways: Johnson scored 2.73 in the lineup, Perine 14.13 on the bench. Alex's switch from Cam Little to Evan McPherson returned 5.00. Ben's Jets defense returned 4.50. These are the observed returns, not proof the former players would have done better; their replacement-versus-drop comparisons are not all in the supplied screenshots.

The adult advice, despite the front page

Fill every eligible starting slot. Keep late-game flexibility. Check again before kickoff. A blank spot removes a chance to score; it does not make the other eight better. George and Catyn won despite the missing production, not because zeroes possess healing properties. That is the official policy. The crowns remain.

THE BOARD: CHAOS AGENTS

A one-week editorial exception, not conventional power rankings

George and Catyn get their flowers for beating the logic we spent last week explaining. Everyone else follows according to their part in this week's nonsense, with actual performance still getting a vote. Each card shows its published Week 6 power rank for reference. Because this week's lens changed, those are not normal up/down performance grades.

01

Hail Mary George

5-2 · 1,358.59 PF · Week 6 power rank: 3

Two starting running backs with no game. A first-place opponent. A 4.56-point win. George has not disproved roster management. He has made it very difficult for me to discuss with a straight face. Crown awarded.

02

Balls? I'm In!

2-5 · 1,135.44 PF · Week 6 power rank: 12

A new quarterback, a zero at tight end, and a 0.97-point win. Catyn did just enough, which is the same amount the standings require. This is a Chaos crown, not a claim that twelfth in Yahoo secretly means second. Enjoy it.

03

Loose Endz

5-2 · 1,584.19 PF · Week 6 power rank: 2

Pat scored 249.66 with 4.97 at QB and owns the league's highest season total. Under ordinary criteria, this would command more attention. Unfortunately, the editor has been distracted by unattended RB slots.

04

Zaddy Dan

5-2 · 1,454.14 PF · Week 6 power rank: 1

Still second in season points and a serious title threat. Also lost to seven scoring starters with a winning flex option on the bench. Dan is not falling apart. He is participating in the theme.

05

Dolly's Dolls

4-3 · 1,396.79 PF · Week 6 power rank: 5

Three straight wins. Second-highest score this week. Third-most points this season. Farrar is the threat to watch while everyone argues about the crowns. Annoyingly, this case requires no bit.

06

Ball Hogs

4-3 · 1,230.33 PF · Week 6 power rank: 8

Mike's last three scores fit inside 0.32 points. The last two have been wins. He is turning 203 into a brand and making useful pickups while doing it. Much less chaotic. Much more effective.

07

Bobby's Juicemen

4-3 · 1,332.02 PF · Week 6 power rank: 7

Bobby won with the week's second-lowest score and a minus-9 defense. That is a strong application for Chaos recognition. The record improved; the 137.91-point performance did not suddenly become good.

08

Hailee Steinfeld's Husband

3-4 · 1,266.64 PF · Week 6 power rank: 4

Dave B got good games from both Williamses and Corum, then 2.00 combined from kicker and defense. The defending champ still has upside. This week the supporting cast stopped supporting.

09

Pass Rush David

2-5 · 1,380.84 PF · Week 6 power rank: 6

Fourth in total points, tenth in Yahoo, three straight losses. Dave C is doing enough to scare opponents and not enough to satisfy the schedule. A dangerous roster with a very unhelpful record.

10

Wonder Waah

3-4 · 1,332.33 PF · Week 6 power rank: 9

Ben has followed 294.33 with 150.39 and 165.84. The ceiling exists. So does the floor, and lately he has been spending time there. The two-swap, 0.15-point alternate win is particularly rude.

11

Mariah Carey

3-4 · 1,192.34 PF · Week 6 power rank: 11

Henny lost to 137.91 with the winning RB points on his bench. The activity is there. The conversion from activity to wins needs work. Perine's 14.13 is now on the evidence board.

12

Love the Puca hate the game

2-5 · 1,319.86 PF · Week 6 power rank: 10

Alex is here as this week's principal victim of Chaos, not because the roster is the league's worst. Four straight losses, then 0.97 short against an unfilled TE slot. Several bench alternatives won it. I would also hate the game.

THE CHAOS DESK

The scoring calmed down. The managers did not.

Week 7 Chaos Index: 8.4

The familiar weighting remains: 40% outcome impact, 20% positional volatility, 20% scoring concentration, and 20% unpredictability. The component grades are editorial judgments, not an official Yahoo formula.

Outcome impact: 9.0. Remove only kicker and defense points from the existing totals and both featured wins reverse: George trails Dan 109.40-121.01; Catyn trails Alex 130.46-151.66. This isolates those positions' leverage, not what would have happened under standard scoring. Dan, Alex, and Henny each also had a single eligible bench swap that reverses a loss.

Positional volatility: 6.0. Starting kickers ranged from 2.00 to 41.00. Defenses ranged from minus-9.00 to 25.50. Weird, but less extreme than Week 5's kicker fireworks.

Scoring concentration: 8.0. Pollard, Irving, and Smith-Njigba provided 153.06 of Pat's 249.66. Judkins and Lamb provided 78.75 of Catyn's 165.13.

Unpredictability: 10.0. First place lost to a team with two empty RB slots. A team with no TE points won by 0.97. Bobby won with the second-lowest score. The editor requests that somebody else explain this.

Five teams beat their pregame projections. The league scored 2,135.60 against 2,286.15 projected, a shortfall of 150.55. The biggest overperformer was Pat at +36.41. Bobby was the biggest underperformer at -54.27. Both won.

BACK IN THE ACTUAL STANDINGS

Yahoo, which has not adopted our editorial policy

Pat, Dan, and George are all 5-2 in Boston Tea Party. Pat holds first overall, Dan third, George fourth. The other three Boston teams are all 2-5. That division has developed a very clear upstairs and downstairs.

The six-way 3-3 tie in Great Molasses has split neatly in half. Mike, Farrar, and Bobby are 4-3. Ben, Dave B, and Henny are 3-4. Mike occupies Yahoo's second overall spot as the division leader. That is not the Gazette calling him the second-highest scorer.

Farrar has won three straight. Mike has won two straight. Alex has lost four straight, Dave C three. Those are the trends worth carrying into next week, once the editorial confetti is cleaned up.

THE WAIVER WINDOW

These are Week 8 projections, not last week's points

The supplied lists show players on waivers for October 28. Numbers below are Yahoo's Week 8 forecasts in Gotham scoring, not guaranteed points or confirmed future workloads. Verify status and lineup eligibility before placing a claim.

RB · 11.11 / 10.98 / 10.01 projected

Kenny Gainwell, Jonah Coleman, Kimani Vidal

The top three visible RB options by projection. A temporary replacement should solve a specific starting-slot problem. Do not cut a useful long-term player merely because one of these estimates has two digits.

WR · 11.73 / 11.17 / 11.06 projected

Jordan Addison, Ryan Flournoy, DeMario Douglas

Receiving first downs count in Gotham, so the useful question is who will get opportunities to catch the ball and move the chains. The screenshot supplies forecasts, not a verified target-share report. Check the role before choosing.

TE · 9.23 / 9.12 / 9.10 projected

Kenyon Sadiq, AJ Barner, Cade Otton

Three available options for a tight-end opening. Catyn, this is not a subpoena. It is a list. You can use it while remaining our No. 2 Chaos Agent.

Roster maintenance · still technically recommended

Make the small move, not the panic move

Use an eligible IR spot when available, bench a valued bye-week player, and cut the least valuable expendable player when coverage is needed. A narrow win does not make an avoidable zero a strategy. A narrow loss does not mean your entire roster needs replacing.

NEXT WEEK IN GOTHAM

Week 8 · Tuesday's Yahoo projection snapshot

All projections are from the October 27 Week 8 matchup screenshot and can change as managers make moves.

THE EDITOR'S FINAL POSITION

Last week: start a full lineup.

This week: still start a full lineup. Also, congratulations to George and Catyn, who have made me sound deeply annoying while being objectively correct.

The regular writer got the week off. I am considering following them.
